GRANT FOR THE INNOVATION OF FOLK CULTURE

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE 2nd EDITION 2011-2012

The purpose of this announcement is to develop a grant to promote the production and exhibition of Catalan folk culture with the aim of creating new, modern, up-to-date performances, which are attractive to the public and able to generate synergies with other forms of culture, such as plastic arts, music, circus, literature, museums, etc.

The essential preservation of different types of folk culture must be closely linked with evolution and modernisation, adapting to new temporary and social realities and opening up to cultural reflection.

The aim of the grant for the innovation of Folk Culture is to create a suitable environment for individuals and entities to be able to develop this creativity and at the same time, put it into practice.

Rules and deadlines

A grant is announced for 2011-2012 of 5,000 euros to be contributed to financing the production of a show. This amount must represent 50% of the production budget at the most.

The winning show will be performed within the 15th Fira Mediterrània de Manresa 2012.

The Grant also includes contracting the show by the Girona City Council to be performed in Girona as a preview. The date will be agreed with the Girona City Council, and the contract will be made under the usual terms of the Council.

All individuals or legal entities may present an application, whether or not they are involved in folk culture, as long as the project they present has not been previously performed.

Each applicant may only present one project for this grant.

The application should be made to Fundació Jaume Casademont, through its portal www.fundaciojaumecasademont.cat, in the section entitled “Beca Cultura Popular”. All details of the entity should be provided and the complete project should be attached in detail in order to opt for the grant.

The project should be presented in writing and should include the objectives, the spaces, the activities to be performed, the groups participating and the budget. The innovative characteristics or elements proposed by the project should also be highlighted.

The company/association should declare that they are in possession of intellectual property rights needed to perform the show, including image, music and text rights, if applicable. The organisation reserves the right to request all documentation that may be necessary to prove this.

The winner undertakes to arrange the opening performance within the Fira Mediterrània de Manresa 2012, as agreed with the organisation.

Fira Mediterrània de Manresa and the Fundació Jaume Casademont undertake to arrange the opening performance within Fira Mediterrània de Manresa 2012, once it has been produced. Both entities will be indicated as co-producers of the performance.

The terms to participate in the Fira will be:

All expenses incurred by participating in the Fira, are included in the funding of the grant with the following exceptions:

La Fira will provide technical needs as long as they adapt to the standards of the event.

La Fira will be able to accommodate groups if their place of residence is outside Catalonia. Accommodation may be in Manresa or neighbouring towns. The Fira will provide a bus service.

The winning group of the grant will be considered professionals registered at the Fair, and will be given two accreditations, access to La Llotja professional area of interchange and business with the participation of institutions, distributors, programmers, companies and journalists.

Information on the show will be promoted through the media of La Fira (general programme, professional catalogue, web, tools 2.0 and mailing).

 

The jury will assess the artistic and cultural interest, quality and financial and technical viability of the project presented.

It will not be possible for the winning company to make any changes in the contents of the project without informing the organising committee.

The authors of the winning works agree to transfer image rights for promotional use of the grant and la Fira.

The winners will receive half the amount of the prize once the verdict has been announced, and the second half will be received once the premiere performance is over.

The winners are obliged to attend the Grant awarding and promotion ceremonies, as specified by the organisation.

The organizers reserve the right to invite to the awarding ceremonies all those people it feels appropriate in view of their link with the project, and also increase the recognition of the organising entities and possible sponsors of the grants during its celebration.

Once the show has been presented, exploitation rights will correspond to the authors, but in any event, the award of the GRANT FOR THE INNOVATION OF FOLK CULTURE should always be mentioned whenever the show is performed and in all information and advertising elements, including the logo of the grant to be provided by the organisation.

The funding of the grant indicated in these rules, is considered the total gross amount, and will be subject to any withholding taxes applicable.

The presentation of documentation implies the acceptance of the rules.

The verdict of the jury is final.

Deadline

The next announcement will open on 15th September 2011 and close on 1st April 2012.
